[Global Network Comprehensive Report] In 2016, Ahmad Khan Rahimi, a suspect who made bombings in Chelsea District, Manhattan, new york and Elizabethtown, New Jersey, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Tuesday (February 13th).
According to a report by the US Chinese website on February 13th, last October, a jury found Rahami guilty of using a weapon of mass destruction, bombing a public place and interstate transportation of explosives.
In court on Tuesday, Rahami said that he would not "hate anyone".
The US federal prosecutor said that Rahami did not show remorse for his crimes. After he was arrested, he tried to anger prisoners in federal prisons. "Rahami is proud of what he has done. He despises the US judicial system and continues to practice his terrorist thoughts."
Xavier Donaldson, a defense lawyer, said that before the attack, Rahami was a naturalized American citizen from Afghanistan. He wanted to be a policeman, so he worked as a guard after studying criminal justice in a community school. Donaldson said: "Rahami thinks he can help others in a job where he can have a pension." Rahami’s lawyers hope that Rahami will be allowed to attend college courses and have the opportunity to see his family under surveillance.
On September 17th, 2016, bombs exploded in the Chelsea district of Manhattan in new york and Elizabethtown, New Jersey within 12 hours, injuring 30 people. The suspect Rahami was injured and arrested after fighting with the police. Police in New Jersey found a backpack with five explosive devices hidden near the train station in Elizabeth. These settings are also considered to be related to Rahami.
After being convicted in Lahami last fall, his father said that he tried to tell the FBI that his son was interested in radical groups two years before the incident. Rahami was misled by the video of terrorists.
Lahami’s younger brother said: "Lahami’s life is hard. He is tired of his life and chose this road."
