  The 23rd China Documentary Academic Festival was held in Shenzhen on November 8 -10, and eight works of the science and education channel won the grand prize. In the "2017 Academic Forum on How to Tell the Story of China Well in Documentary", director Yan Dong of the science and education channel and his international team made an important speech to promote international cooperation in documentary.

  This academic festival is sponsored by China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, China Television Artists Association, Propaganda Department of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles, undertaken by Academic Committee of Television Documentary of China Television Association, Shenzhen Film and Television Artists Association and co-organized by Shenzhen Film and Television Industry Federation. A total of 550 works selected by 95 TV stations, 38 film and television centers and 72 film and television production companies participated in the evaluation, competing for 28 annual awards, which is the highest specification and the most authoritative award for domestic documentaries. Hu Zhanfan, vice chairman of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, chairman of China Television Artists Association, and Zhao Huayong, honorary chairman of China Television Association, attended the event.

  Eight works of the science and education channel won the grand prize, among which the documentary Long March, War that Changed the World and Battlefield Yellow Flower won the top ten works in series and the documentary Belt and Road won the top ten works in series respectively. The "Exploration and Discovery" column won the top ten columns; "Craft" (the seventh season) won the annual collection of TV documentaries; China Snow Leopard Survey III < Wait &mdash; &mdash; Yanchiwan > won ten excellent works in short film; "Late Peak" won a long and good work; In addition, Michael Cove, director and screenwriter of the Australian Wild Bear Company, co-produced the documentary War to Change the World between China and Australia, won the Best Writing Award.

  The academic forum "Documentary Storytelling 2017" held on November 9-10 invited producers and directors of world-renowned production and broadcasting companies such as National Geographic and British Lion Company, as well as elites, experts and scholars in the domestic documentary industry to share their research and creative experiences closely around the theme of "How to tell the story of China well in documentaries".

  Director Yan Dong of the Science and Education Channel and his team made a theme of "Communication, Interaction and Cooperation &mdash; &mdash; The International Expression of China’s Story from "The War that Changed the World". In his speech, Director Yan Dong summed up the experience of his six documentaries on international cooperation, shared with the audience the important links and practical challenges in the process of international expression of China’s story with vivid examples and wonderful multimedia interaction, and showed how to tell the topic selection of China’s main theme from an international perspective, how to grasp the core ideas, and how to show the significance of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression in the 14th year of China to the world anti-fascist war with international expression.

He also said that "the international expression of China’s story is a continuous, gradual and spiraling development process. As a documentary director, it is an obligation to spread excellent stories to more audiences." 

  Also speaking with Director Yan Dong was the partner of War to Change the World &mdash; &mdash; Michael Cove, director and screenwriter of Australian Wild Bear Company, shared on the spot how to create an international version of China theme documentary for a global audience in view of the differences in thinking, language and habits between the two sides. He himself won the best writing award for this work.
